Why the whale logo? There’s a legend that during a dreadful storm, God sent a great whale to rescue a drowning sailor named Jona. The whale swallowed Jona and safely brought him back to the shore three days later. The “whale” symbol first appeared in the register of knife – makers from 1684 – 1775. A sword – maker in Solingen, which is known as the “knife capital of the world”, first used this symbol. In 1911, Richard chose the “whale” pattern as a registered trademark, perfectly embodying the value, strength, and uniqueness of RICHARTZ products.
