EDC Gear | Why Do People Develop Emotional Attachments to Objects?

The phenomenon of people developing emotional attachments to inanimate objects that don’t talk or interact is called “empathy.” Empathy occurs not only in interpersonal relationships but also between humans and pets, and even with inanimate objects. When you project certain emotions or subconscious thoughts onto these objects, they unconsciously become an extension of your inner world. For example, some people develop deep emotional bonds with their EDC gear that has accompanied them for a while. They might even name these items and express gratitude for their companionship. This phenomenon can be explained from a psychological perspective. An old saying goes, “All things have spirits,” which means that when people interact with objects, they project their emotions onto them. When you show care and pity for an object, you’re actually showing self – pity. This emotional projection satisfies people’s inner emotional needs, especially when they’re feeling lonely or in need of companionship.
