Knife Sharing: “The Struggle Between the Tiger and the Wolf”

This knife is made of Swedish powder steel RWL-34 stainless steel. It features a concave grind and a satin finish with wire drawing. There are grooves on both sides of the blade. The shape of the grooves coordinates with the overall appearance of the blade, and some of the grooves penetrate through. We integrated the front half of the handle with the blade and carved it using the hollowing-out technique. We carved five palm leaves on each side on the outside, making them curl inward downward to form a “cage”. Inside the cage, we carved a tarantula and a gecko as if they were fighting each other. The tarantula is a giant spider, extremely fierce and venomous. It can poison small birds, animals and even humans. In this work, we can see that the gecko seems to be in a rather perilous situation as the tarantula pins it down. Under the cover of the palm leaves carved on the outside, we can easily imagine the difficulty of carving such exquisitely detailed animal forms. The handle material is snakewood, carved into the shape of large scales. The shape of the tail somewhat resembles that of the traditional Turkish knife “Bichaq”.
