Al Mar, a Chinese-American, shined brightly in the international knife community and became a source of pride for the Chinese people as a knife maker.
Born in Seattle, USA, this man served in the U.S. Army Special Forces (the Green Berets) during the Vietnam War and earned numerous military exploits. While in service, he already started to modify knives. After his discharge from the military, he actively joined Gerber to design knives. In 1979, he decided to set out on his own and established his own knife factory. After that, Al Mar designed many classic knife models. During the 13 years from the establishment of his knife factory until his passing in 1992, Al Mar occupied a rather special position in the knife community. His designs that conformed to ergonomics, the high practicality, as well as the sharp and high-quality blade production won high praise from knife users all over the world.
